Wind chill warning

I am about to go home. Here's what I have to look forward to between leaving the office and entering the house:

Severe Weather Bulletin for Bergen County

Issued at: 3:49 PM EST 1/15/04, expires at: 5:00 PM EST 1/15/04

A wind chill warning remains in effect for tonight and Friday morning,

North to northwest winds will increase to 20 to 25 mph this evening with gusts to 35 mph at times. The combination of the very cold air with the strong winds will result in wind chill temperatures from 20 to 30 degrees below zero late tonight into early Friday morning.

A wind chill warning is issued when a strong wind will combine with cold temperatures to create dangerously cold conditions for exposed skin. The wind will make it feel like it is 25 degrees below zero or colder for a period of several hours. If you are outdoors and unprotected for 30 minutes, you can develop frostbite at these values. Those planning to venture outdoors should use common sense and dress warmly. Wear a hat, ear muffs, gloves, and well insulated shoes, and make sure that all exposed skin is covered.

If you have to travel any distance overnight, it is a good idea to have extra blankets, flares and battery jumper cables in your car, and make sure your cell phone battery is fully charged.

If you have pets, make sure to bring them inside as they also can quickly suffer from the bitter cold.
