On popes and house elves

So the new pope went with Benedict XVI. How unoriginal. Though I suppose you'd have to be a rebel cardinal, a Father Fonzarelli, to have the stones to choose a new name. Pope Diddy I, or something. Two things were clear, though: The cardinals wanted someone so very like John Paul II (after all, he made all but three of the 15 men cardinals), which means they wanted another conservative pope. None of these forward-thinking guys who'll consider allowing priests to marry or women to be ordained. And they didn't want to have another near-30-year reign, it seems. I was rooting for the guy from Africa though.

And until two years ago, the St. Louis Cardinals had a pitcher in their minor-league system named Justin Pope. HA!

He's now with the Yankees organization.

Someone at work sent me a picture of this critter...

I think it's a house elf ...
