Christmas memories

Sitting here now as the radio plays Dave Matthews' "Christmas Song," I think of how much I loved all those songs from Christmases past -- and how I need to start new memories.

But earlier I thought of some of the videos I saw for contemporary recordings of Christmas tunes and thought of how I could never make a video myself -- I don't have any reels of home movies to include. My Christmases lie in memory of the warmth of the lights, the glow of the tree and that feeling it brought, of going to Uncle Chic's and all the family there and the tree, of walking up to church that night, of "Silent Night" with candles, of the Due Process Stables light display and picking Grandma up at her condo, of waking up early in a silent house (not even a mouse) and getting the stockings -- with a peak at the tree and all those presents that appeared overnight, of opening everything and playing with the best of it while Mom and Dad got ready for dinner, of Alvin and the Chipmunks, of talking to friends to organize gift exchnages and (as older kids) which movie we'd go see, of Heather and so much more ...

And how tonight I might just let myself fall asleep with the radio on.
