Luminescence

We had some freezing rain last night before the snow. When I walked out of work Saturday night, I could hear the trees crackling in the wind. I scraped the ice from my car and drove to Val's, my Saturday night bar.

Met up there with Dave and Rudy, and Dave drove me home because I'd had a few extra drinks, and with the now-falling snow, I shouldn't have done it myself.

So this morning, right before noon, we went to get my car. And ended up going inside for some pizza for lunch, and I stayed to watch the Notre Dame basketball game on TV.

After the game, I went to get gas in the car and took a Sunday drive through snow-covered hills on a beautiful, brilliantly sunny day. The treetops sparkled with ice-coated leafless branches shining in the sun.

And on the way to work tonight in the fading afternoon sunshine, the low lying sun changed the bright sparkle atop the trees to an orange glow, a tinted luminescence upon the frozen boughs. I was amazed; it looked like orange lights way atop the tall trees.

And I wondered why I was so lucky to be able to see it -- out at the right time, looking in the right places, driving the right roads.

A good day.
