Altered skyline

There's something eerie and unsettling about driving along the Hudson River (Jersey side) and looking over at New York City in the fog. And the skyline looks relatively flat, like any other city in America, because the Empire State Building ends where the rest of the buildings do.

The weather today obscured the top of New York's tallest building, and where it would normally be something of an amusing site, ever since September it's been a disturbing sight. Even at night, I expect to see some sort of glow, some recognition that the top, bathed in red and green floodlights for the season, was there, some sort of tint to the fog. But it hasn't been, and I actually had a fleeting thought one night that maybe something had happened to the building and I was unaware, sealed in my car with the CD player going ...

Damn them for putting these thoughts in my head.
