Road-weary

There comes that point in every trip where all the passengers get giddy. They lose it.

It happened on the return trip from Boston to Cleveland about 20 miles south of Buffalo. We found a rap station on the radio and found the radio's top volume. Then we found Elton John, belting, "The Way You Look Tonight" in three different keys as we drove on through western New York late afternoon, fog and rain descending upon us as we rounded Lake Erie and neared Pennsylvania. It's one of those times when you let yourself loose, uninhibited by what anyone might think, particularly those in the cars you pass. It's a combination of car cramping and open-road adventure that excites something in all of us.
